SHABBY CHIC HALLOWEEN DECOR : FLAGS
I wanted something cheap, chic, and easy for this wall for our Halloween party. Then after hours of watching, CARS, Jungle Junction, and other such racing shows I decided good old racing flags would be perfect! I think it looks great…And what do you know the wall I had in mind ended up looking like a large JackOLantern!!! I guess my hubby is right however and our TV does look kinda small for this wall…
Anyway here is how I did it:
- Start by making a pattern: Use regular computer paper:
- Trace this onto your fabric. I used Fat Quarters from JoAnns they were $0.99 each. I bought five styles.
- Then Cut!!
-
- Okay so here is Decision time….Depending on how crafty you feel and your time frame you can decide what to do next. Also depends on if you are hanging on a wall or over an opening.
- If you are short on time and hanging on a wall like I did just follow the rest of the instructions it is easy.
- If not, And you feel Especially Crafty…. Try sewing wrong sides together and then reversing for a very finished look! You could even double Holiday and sew Christmas fabric on the back.
- Some Ideas, however I decided it was just as cute and a bit more Shabby rough cut So I just left the sewing out.
- Remember the pattern will repeat so if you have two oranges don’t put them at the beginning and end
- I am using some leather cord that I had around the house, but You could use yarn, ribbon, whatever…as long as it has some substance. Remember if you are double holidaying it to go with White, or Green in color as they work for spooky and Christmassy!
- Oh For my spance of about 8 feet I used 3 glue sticks.
-
- Then put Glue on top of the cord and fold your fabric over.
-
- You are going to need to space the flags equal distance apart.
- Repeat the process until you have a nice string of flags.
- If you are double siding it, I recommend folding the tops down inside over your ribbon and then running a zigzag stitch over it. Very Nice that!
